Short Biography
Stefano Armenia was born in Rome (Italy) in 1971 and I had my degree in IT Engineering, Industrial Automation & Control Systems, at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in 1998.
From 2001 to 2008 I have worked at the Department of Business Engineering at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, where I also had my Ph.D. in Business & Management Engineering and a Master in Management and Business Administration.
During my graduation studies, I dealt with the behaviours of autonomous robots in dynamic and unknown environments while my PhD research has focused on the role of management policies and practices with regards to software project management dynamics.
I have been introduced to system dynamics in 2001 during my Ph.D. studies (dissertation on the Dynamics of Software Projects) and have since then applied the methodology both as the main tool for my research as well as for carrying out consultancy projects in various areas (Project Management, Finance, Supply Chain, population dynamics, IT services, change management, etc.), from the conceptualization of qualitative models to the calibration and simulation of quantitative ones, up to the assessment of alternative policies and what-if analyses.
From 2008 to 2012, I have collaborated with a Technological Interdepartmental research Center at Sapienza University of Rome (CATTID) as a scientific consultant, with a focus on the analysis of the impact of new technologies on organizational processes and as responsible of the competence center on Business Process Management & Simulation Lab.
As of today, I have a scientific affiliation, as a Research Fellow, with the Center for Cyber Intelligence and Information Security of the University of Rome “La Sapienza”, with a particular focus on the analysis of the impact of new technologies on organizational processes, and I am the President of SYDIC (the Italian Network of the System Dynamics International Society). At CIS SAPIENZA, I am actually managing (as the Project Manager) the European project named CRISADMIN (DG-Home - HOME/2011/CIPS/AG/4000002116), on critical infrastructures interdependencies modelling and analysis, where I am also having the Scientific Lead on the System Dynamics modeling process.
My research and publications mainly deal with the analysis of complex systems dynamics in many fields, from security to international crisis analysis, from logistics and transportation to innovative finance and technological innovation, to policy modeling and impact assessment.
I have collaborated (and I am still, in some cases) as a strategic consultant with some companies and institutions (both public and private), to whom I offered my services using both my management and technical skills, particularly in the fields of security and defence, technology transfer, innovation management, computational social science, operations research and applications in areas as decision making, economics, financial engineering, operations management, strategy and policy modeling.
I have a wide working experience (more than 10 years) on technology and process innovation and on change management due to his collaborations both with the Italian Public Administration (Formez, CNIPA, central and local PAs, National Health System) and with the industrial sector (transportation and logistics, maritime business, integrated supply chain, industrial manufacturing, defence security & space, finance). I have also matured an excellent knowledge in the analysis of systems through the use of various simulation tools as well as in building up Decision Support Systems, business simulators and Interactive Learning Environments (mainly by using SD).
I am a Project and Quality Manager with 10 years experience in leading both industrial and research projects, with a specific focus in the Defence & Homeland security domain, where I can count on a specific experience of more than 5 years.
I am also actually involved in various and prestigious Italian and European technical-scientific committees and editorial boards, and maintain many contacts with the industrial, public and research sectors, at a national and international level. I have good communication skills and, having regularly been able to work with the US and UK, I speak quite a fluent English. I also speak good French and some German.
I believe my rich and varied background has given me sufficient experience that makes me a suitable candidate for roles requiring skills in the following areas:

- Modeling, Simulation, Model Driven Architectures, BPM/BPR in various fields (from economics to financial engineering, from operations research to public governance and policy modeling)

I believe that especially my skills in system dynamics make me a particularly suitable candidate in all those situations where an organization’s vision has to meet new strategic developments and thus where it is necessary to decide on various possible actions and policies by evaluating both qualitatively and quantitatively (decision support) their impacts on a medium-to-long term strategy.
Also, I have been described as proactive, reliable, a quick learner, and highly flexible. I also have proven communication skills, which enable me to interact and work well as part of a team.
