Short Biography: 

Paolo Bottoni obtained his degree in Physics in 1988 from the University of Milan.

He obtained his Ph.D. in “Informatica” from the University of Milan in 1995.

Since 1994 he has worked in the “Dipartimento di Informatica” of the “Sapienza” University of Rome, initially as a researcher and then, from 2000 onwards, as an Associate Professor.

His research interests are mainly in the area of interactive computing and include: formal models for defining pictorial and visual languages and interactive computing, multimedia applications for creative processes and cultural heritage. He has had over120 papers on these subjects published in international journals, in edited collections, in the proceedings of International Conferences.

He has been involved in various European and National projects, either as a partner, director or consultant. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the “Journal of Visual Languages and Computing”, and serves on the programme committiees of various international conferences. In 2008 he was Program Chair of the ACM Working Conference on Advanced Visual Interfaces (AVI 2008) and of the IEEE Symposium on Visual Languages / Human Centric Computing.
